What to do when you can't see your Chiropractor!

Exercise

Motion is lotion! The best thing you can do is keep moving, whether its a walk, run, cycle - not forgetting the exercises I will have given you if you’ve seen me already!

However do not exercise THROUGH pain. You shoulnd’t have to force it. I have a rule of a little discomfort is fine, but pain is a no! Listen to your body and go easy on yourself if needs be.

Stretch

This goes hand in hand with exercise and is a great thing to add to your daily routine. Again, if you have seen me already I will have given you stretches specific to you.

If you want to mix it up or take it a step further, let me know and I will help.

Treat Yourself

This can take many forms, you could rope a loved one in to massage you or help you stretch (feel free to contact me so I can explain how!) Or if you’re unlucky enough not to own one of our massagers yet you can always try using something like a tennis ball to massage the painful area.

There are also loads of useful resources out there, for example taping yourself is made really easy with KT tape videos on youtube.

Know when it’s serious

For some conditions I tell my patients “red flags” to look out for. These are symptoms that mean your condition has become more serious and needs urgent (A&E) treatment.

In my job the main ones I tell people to look out for is changes in bladder or bowel function (e.g. incontinence) and numbness in the genital region.

It also helps to know the natural course of your condition. For example as with sciatica, you may get more back pain as the leg pain gets better - this is actually a good sign!
